Eyes lie or they don’t.
timer Published Date:2nd Oct, 2020

People’s eyes tell the truth, back in school they taught me this. But I wonder if they ever lie too.
I had a friend who would write letters in gothic fonts, wrote poetries about white daisies in fields of Yorkshire. He visited me often, used to tell me how his life is in England, I shall come to see him once, and he will take me to the farms in the evening and will sit by the spring, to look at the overcast skies and roll over grasses, the dirt would make mosaic prints all over his ridiculous plaid shirt. Then there we would be, us, two kids, unbothered from the worldly matters, and we would be laughing because of our failed attempts of back rides, we mimicking one another, letting ourselves drawn in towards the significance of this moment that we would carry forever. We wish we could always be like this, you mentioned once, and I wanted you to stay, but you had to move away. I waited by the mailbox for letters from familiar address to arrive, April, May, June July, but I never received one again. Autumn came, the smell of the hay, old barns would remind me of you talking about white daisies in fields of Yorkshire, of how you liked singing in the chapel, and of how you used to write letters in gothic fonts. You stopped writing back, I always wonder why. I would picture you in my head of how would you look like now, is your hair combed back and wear suits like these gentlemen in work, do you still read Shakespeare, do you still hate rainfalls and hazy clouds, and do you ever wonder back about the girl you said you would write to, about girl you said you would visit next time by the mid-summer after the school is over, so to go on hills and play on tire swings. But I believed in him when he said he will stay in touch, cause we were unbothered by worldly matters. Now since I never heard of him once, years passed, some other people sing in the chapel, and white daisies no longer grow, I keep thinking if I misread those eyes because he promised but he never actually came again or do these eyes, they really kept lying?
